The Joy of Tacos

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I love to eat. I especially love to eat when I don’t have to cook. There’s something about eating something that someone else has prepared that makes the food taste better. I really don’t know what it is, but I’m not going to overthink it, I’m just going to enjoy it.

Today, I had the chance to eat my favorite street food: tacos from “The Taco Lady”, as my hubby and I call her. I didn’t know this cart on 59th street and 4th avenue in Brooklyn actually had a name until today. It’s mostly because these tacos used to be served out of something that looked like this (except smaller and not as bright):

and now she’s gotten all fancy and upgraded to this:

As fancy as her cart is, if you’re looking for a dining experience where you can actually sit at a table and enjoy your meal, this is not the place to go. If you’re looking for amazing tacos, this is the place to go.

These tacos are sooooo good. The steak is seasoned perfectly, there’s plenty of cilantro, and the lime adds the perfect amount of sour. Don’t take my word for it, just look!!

They’re so good, in fact, that I would look for her cart whenever I came out of the subways station, whether I was hungry or not. I would take a look back, see the cart, and know all things were right in the universe. If she wasn’t there, a feeling of disappointment and unease would wash over me.

Maybe these tacos are extra delicious because of the memories attached. My husband and I used to grab tacos on a regular basis while we were dating. In the summer, we’d grab a couple of tacos and stand outside my car and gobble them up. She wasn’t usually around in the winter, but when she was around and it was chilly, we’d actually sit in the car and eat. The car would smell like delicious tacos on my drive home. YUM.
